TRANSITION Town Wellington’s sustainable food group is setting up a summer meadow group run by scything champion and founder of the Somerset Scythe School, Andi Rickard.
The aim is to help to maintain the community orchards and leas in Wellington in a bid to restore diverse wild flower meadows in some of the areas.
Helen Gillingham, from the food group, said: “If you would like to try your hand at the ancient art of scything on a sunny summer’s evening and give back something to the community by helping to create a beautiful, productive communal space, then why not come along for free.
“We will hold the group scything on the third Wednesday evening
7-8pm, from April to August, and if we are rained off, we can change it to the fourth Wednesday. The first meeting is on Wednesday, April 19, at the community woodland behind the sports centre car park.”
Anyone interested should call Andi on 07581 239453 as the location will change every month.
