WELLINGTON Ladies were beaten 3-1 by local rivals Staplegrove in the final of the Somerset County Women’s League (SCWL) Chairman’s Cup at Street on Sunday.
It was the first time many of the girls had appeared in a cup final – and they were naturally disappointed to lose, especially after taking the lead through Molly Hines in the first half.
The turning point came just before half time – during injury time – when the Grove grabbed an equaliser.
Having played well in the first half and looking likely winners, Wellington found themselves under pressure in the second half and conceded two goals, the second being crucial for the Grove.
However, Wellington can look back on a successful season in which they have improved immensely.
