I’m back. . . and with good news about bad weather!

OH, go on. . .you’ve missed me. Yes, people have come up to me in the street and asked me where I’ve been.

Well, I’ve been around but have been taking some time out after being involved with newspapers for a good 60 years. And times are changing in the newspaper industry. Digital is the way forward and the Wellington Weekly is going down this route. There have been teething problems and, unfortunately, we must apologise to correspondents for articles which have not appeared.

Your Welly Weekly will continue to bring you all the latest news in the town, Everything is computorised these days - gone are the days of the typewriter, printer and reader. Many local newspapers have failed to move with the times and have been lost. That’s a big shame but they have to stay profitable otherwise they will fold. Like all businesses, they can only run at a loss for so long. And remember, it’s advertising which keeps papers afloat. Without it they’re doomed.

THE banking hub in Fore Street, Wellington, is now up and running and after a quiet start it has become busy. It would appear people have taken some time to adjust. More have used it this week. The banking hub is here to stay but its base in Fore Street is only temporary. It will move to a permanent site eventually. There is no news yet as to what will happen to the big building which houses the Lloyds branch until it closed earlier this week. It is a splendid looking building - one of the best in town - and there is speculation as to what it will eventually become.

WHAT’S all the fuss about the wet weather. . . and who’s suffered from SAD because they are not seeing the sun. There are 12 million people in Britain who have NOT been suffering from the early symptoms of hay fever and they would probably like the weather to continue as it is for a week or so. But there comes a time when rain needs to turn to sunshine and we can all get out and about. I have suffered from hay fever since I was 21 and I remember my doctor telling me I would grow out of it in 25 years. I can assure you that is not the case.
