PARENT and community meetings are being held in Court Fields School, Wellington, to help develop two key areas of the curriculum.

Headteacher Polly Matthews wants to encourage pledges of support for outdoor learning and performing arts.

Ms Matthews said parents and people in the community could support the activities by giving time, resources, or financial donations.

She said the initiative would run alongside the school’s capital projects, which currently included building a 3G sports pitch for student and community use.

The first meeting of the group discussed ideas for fund-raising to enhance the technical resources and facilities for performing arts, to enable the school to develop the scale and quality of its productions.

Those attending also discussed support for a range of outdoor learning opportunities, including the school allotment and forest school area, as well as Duke of Edinburgh and Exmoor Challenge activities.

Ms Matthews said it was a ‘hugely positive meeting, well attended by staff members, parents, and those from the community’.

She said: “It was great to see so many people join us for our first meeting.

“It shows the strength of community that we have built, and I am very excited to see what we can achieve as a group.

“We have pledges from each of the attendees to help us achieve our objectives around outdoor learning and performing arts, which will have a significant impact on the curriculum and enrichment for our students in these areas.

“I would like to thank those who attended, or contacted us to say they would like to be involved and would encourage anybody who has an interest in either outdoor learning or performing arts, or simply wants to help develop our school for the benefit of our community, to come along to our next meeting on Tuesday, March 19.”

The attendees at the first meeting committed to following up by each engaging with three contacts to encourage further support for the projects, and to bring with them to the next meeting one person who would also be willing to pledge their support.
