Wellington fire crews raced to tackle a raging vehicle fire on Monday morning.

Fire control received multiple reports of a vehicle fire between Milverton and Preston Bowyer just before 8am. A fire engine from Wellington was immediately mobilised to battle the flames.

Two firefighters arrived on the scene to find the vehicle well alight. They wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to tackle the blaze.

Once the fire was extinguished, the Highways authority were requested to move the vehicle, which was said to remain in a hazardous position to other motorists.

The vehicle was almost completely destroyed by the fire.

The position of the vehicle is not known at this time.

Crews have confirmed that the cause of the fire was accidental.
