IT WAS a chilly morning in Minehead as the Wellington Wanderers U9s took the field for the cup finals. Wellington started off strong, with Jack Jorge finding the back of the net within the first 5 minutes to give the Wanderers an early lead.

But Ruishton were not going to go down without a fight, and they quickly answered with an equaliser of their own on the counterattack. The teams battled it out, with Wellington dominating possession but failing to capitalize on their chances. Goalkeeper Tom Kennen came up with some crucial saves to keep the score level.

After a hard-fought 1-1 draw, the match went to penalties to decide the winner. In the end, Ruishton came out on top, winning the shootout 2-1 to advance to the cup final.

Wellington then took on Staplegrove in the 3rd place playoff, and despite playing some lovely football, they fell victim to a thunderous 20-yard strike that gave Staplegrove the win..

It wasn't the result the Wellington boys were hoping for, but there are certainly lessons to be learned from this experience. One being; no one player wins a game - it takes a true team effort.

A big shoutout to the kit sponsor Roadchef and the jacket sponsor R&M Motor.
