NEW litter bins have been installed in Wellington Park for the first time in more than a quarter-of-a-century.

It is part of a new management regime since the park was taken over by the town council in April.

A council spokesperson said: “The previous bins served well over the past 25 years but it was definitely time for an upgrade.

“The new bins have greater capacity and feature a lid to stop those cheeky squirrels getting into the rubbish.

“This means that there will be less instances of bins overflowing and that vermin will be unable to pull rubbish out of the bins in search for a tasty morsel.”

The park bins and those in other open spaces will continue to be emptied by Somerset Council.
