ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour decreased in Wellington last month, the town council was told at its monthly meeting.
A police report stated: “Three youths have been issued ABCs [Acceptable Behaviour Contracts] and there has been a marked improvement in their behaviour over the month. We have arranged for 15 youths to attend Crime and Consequences Workshops in Wellington and Taunton.
“The objectives of these workshops are to understand what anti-social behaviour is; to recognise how anti-social behaviour affects people in the community and to use a restorative approach to address the young person’s values and perceptions around what is acceptable behaviour.”
THERE were 249 calls to the Wellington Town beat in February. These included 15 abandoned and hoax calls, seven burglaries (all types), 20 anti-social behaviour, two criminal damage, 16 domestics, 12 harassment/threats, seven public order, 22 theft, 16 assault, seven assist other emergency services, 23 concern for welfare, ten missing persons, 20 calls reporting suspicious activity, 25 road traffic collisions and three sexual offences. Thirty-one of these calls required an immediate response.
COUNCILLORS were told that both PCs and PCSOs follow social media and keep track of reports of crime and anti-social behaviour on some of the local groups.
The report added: “Although officers do not comment on the groups we are aware of incidents and concerns mentioned.
“We find it frustrating that a victim will take the time to report anti-social behaviour on this medium but will not contact the police directly. Unless a crime is reported to the police there is nothing we can do.
“We urge the Wellington public to contact the police directly on 101 to report a crime or incident or its website.”
CYCLE thefts have increased recently – bikes have been taken from front and back gardens and from garden sheds overnight.
Councillors were told: “Please do not think a bike is secure just because it has been put in a shed. A bike should still be made secure and attached with a lock and chain in a shed. Frame numbers can be recorded free of charge and secure on the website http://www.immobilise.com”
