GOOD Friday morning saw about 230 people from all the churches in Wellington and surrounding villages gather in St John’s Parish Church for the annual service of remembrance and reflection on the crucifixion of Jesus.

The Rev Tim Treanor led the service, with members of other churches taking part.

A Walk of Witness followed led by Ben Sellick carrying a wooden cross at the front of the walkers, who followed along High Street and up South Street to the Baptist Church where the Rev Sam Griffiths led final prayers.

Volunteers gave out free hot cross buns to people who were out and about in town, and to the patient car drivers as they waited for the walk to pass through.

The event ended with hot cross buns and hot drinks at the Baptist Church.

John Salter, of Wellington Churches Together, said:

“A sincere thank you to everyone who helped out in any way.”
