Wellington formally twinned with the French town of Lillebonne in 1974. Since then the town has twinned itself with Immenstadt in Germany and Torres Vedras in Portugal.
The history of these connections will be the subject of a forthcoming illustrated talk by Roger Nunn, chairman of Wellington & District Twinning Association.
Carole Moore will explain in greater detail the connection between Torres Vedras and Wellington – that involves Arthur Wellesley, who later became the first duke of Wellington.
The event is in the Alan Rogers Centre, beside Wellington School’s sports centre, on Thursday, November 28, at 7.30pm. The talk is organised by Wellington Local History & Museum Society – entry is £3 or £2 for society members.
