POLICE in Wellington have assured residents they are safe, despite a slight increase in assaults over the past month.

Sgt Dan Bishop told members of Wellington Town Council last week – via the Zoom conferencing facilities – there had been 37 assaults.

“That is 37 too many,” he said. “But Wellington people are still safe to go about their everyday business.”

Sgt Bishop said some of the assaults were ‘low level’ but still had to be reported under Home Office guidelines.
