POLICE are looking to support to those ‘in need of help and support’ during December in Wellington.

Sgt Dan Bishop, of Wellington Police, said the festive season presented its usual workload for officers but that they would be looking to do more for the community’s more vulnerable people.

“During December we will be increasing our visibility and engagement in the community and working closely with external partners to identify those in need of help and support,” he told members of Wellington Town Council at their latest meeting held via Zoom video conferencing technology.

“This is particularly important at Christmas, which can be a difficult time of year for those who may have little or no family support.”

Sgt Bishop added: “As a police team we will be working hard to keep those most vulnerable safe throughout the holiday season and I know that the local communities of Wellington will come together and support them, too.”

Councillors were told that police had not encountered any real Covid-19 problems in the town since Somerset came out of the national lockdown and entered the Tier 2 restrictions.

“We have not noted any Covid-19 related tension across the town and reports of Covid-19 regulation breaches and identified breaches remain low,” said Sgt Bishop.
