Good tidings for local firms as they are shortlisted in Somerset Business Awards 2026Sgt Dan Bishop, of Wellington Police, told members of Wellington Town Council at their latest meeting held via Zoom video conferencing technology, that the use of controlled drugs had a ‘detrimental effect on all sections of our communities’.
“Proactive policing has led to us dealing with youths and adults for possession offences over the past month,” he said.
Sgt Bishop said referrals had been made to drug education programmes, while other offenders needed to complete Drug and Alcohol Diversion Schemes.
“In the past week a police investigation led to cannabis cultivation set-ups being located during the search of two separate addresses in Wellington,” he told councillors.
“The drugs were seized and the set-ups dismantled and destroyed at both locations after the occupiers of both premises were arrested and detained.”
