A WOMAN has died after being hit by a train near the new Longforth Farm housing estate in Wellington.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 5.40pm on Monday where a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish how the person came to be on the tracks.”

Trains in both directions were cancelled as emergency services attended the scene.

As the WWN went to Press yesterday afternoon, it is thought the woman was a mother with two children. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
