A POLICE horse within Avon and Somerset is to be called Wellington – thanks to a £300 donation made by Wellington Town Council.

The National Trust’s Wellington Monument engagement officer, Emma Jones, approached the town council’s clerk, Kathryn Hemensley, about the police horse scheme.

And so, after consultation with the Mayor, Cllr Janet Lloyd, a £300 donation was made which will fund a horse blanket with the town council’s crest on it.

The blanket will be given to a newly-qualified police horse who is going to be called Wellington in honour of the town and monument.

It is now hoped there will be an official naming ceremony at Wellington Monument – although arrangements have yet to be confirmed.
