THE outside of the East Block building at Kingsmead School in Wiveliscombe has been enhanced with a new piece of artwork created by students and staff.

The 8ft x 20ft mural was constructed, drawn and painted during the school’s Challenge Week in July by the Art Department and Year 8 students – now in Year 9 – who selected Art as one of their GCSE options.

Inspiration for the mural came from students and staff who were visiting Zambia at the time on an exchange trip. The mural is a reminder of Kingsmead’s connections with partner schools in Zambia and aims to bring something of the colour and pattern of Zambia into the school environment.

Kingsmead’s thanks go to all the students involved in the project, Carrie Lake and Rachael Jennings in the Art Department, and to SCForecourts in Wiveliscombe which erected the mural on the school’s behalf.
