THE local branch of Air Cadets is keen to attract more cadets from the Wellington area when it holds its next recruitment evening next month.

The Royal Air Force Air Cadets squadron, 41F (Taunton & District) is open to boys and girls starting at the age 12, in Year 8 at school, up to the age of 18.

Cadets can take part in a wide range of aviation-related activities such as visits to RAF stations, flying, gliding, shooting, sports and adventure training.

This year, for the first time, 41F Squadron will be on parade in Wellington on Remembrance Sunday, November 11. They will be marching in support of the RAF section of Wellington School Combined Cadet Force to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the formation of the RAF.

Parade nights are held at squadron headquarters in Longrun Lane behind Castle School in Taunton, on Tuesday and Thursday, 7-9.30pm. Optional activities are on offer most weekends.

Cadets in 41F recently trained and competed in the field gun race at the Armed Forces Day at Weston-super-Mare and this summer many cadets are taking part in residential camps at RAF stations in the UK, Gibraltar and Cyprus.

Cadets can also regularly be seen out in the community, recently at Taunton Flower Show.

The Air Cadets are part of the RAF and more than 56,000 cadets attend over 1,000 squadrons nationwide.

Parents and budding cadets are invited to the recruitment evening at squadron headquarters in Taunton on Tuesday, September 11, at 7.30pm.
