THE last week has seen further progress in the creation of a forest garden on Fox’s Field, Wellington - thanks to 25 willing volunteers who came and helped.

It was a relaxed afternoon as volunteers got a chance to chat while planting, as it was well organised by Transition Town Wellington.

It was good to see some people returning after their first visit.

A low food baring hedge has been planted along the footpath, which will provide fruit berries and herbal leaves for passers by to pick once the plants mature.

Hay and cardboard has been used to suppress the growth of the grass around the plants, and a rustic rope fence has been put up to help you see where not to step, to protect the small plants before they get big enough to be seen properly.

The next planting days will be in the New Year.

On Saturday, January 15 (1-3pm) lots of trees will be planted to create a windbreak, and on Saturday, January 22 (1-3pm) the final fruit trees go in along with some more additions to the "fedge" or food hedge.

Everyone is welcome. For more information including directions, visit the Facebook page "Transition Town Wellington" or you can apply to receive TTW’s monthly newsletter via the contact form on the website ttw.org.uk.
