PLANS to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the laying of Wellington Monument’s foundation stone have been moved indoors because of expected bad weather at the weekend.

The National Trust, which owns the monument, had planned to tell ‘The Story of Stone’ with help from local performance company ActionTrack at the site on Saturday evening.

Now the performance has been moved to St John’s Church in Wellington – the free event will run from 7-9pm.

A planned walk from the town to the monument on Saturday afternoon has also been cancelled.
