A plea has been issued for people to be sensible following the recent heatwave.
Following the spate of hot weather - which saw records broken across England- Wellington police are urging people to be more responsible with BBQs and campfires.
Despite the British love of barbecues, people are being reminded that the local eco systems are so dry that a small spark or ember could have major repercussions.
A spokesperson for the Wellington Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Local policing teams have been patrolling our beauty spots and open countryside to engage and explain to people how BBQs and campfires can cause significant damage if lit in dry areas and irresponsibly.
“We have been aware that a bonfire was lit during the hottest weather at the Wellington Basins. We would like to make it clear that recreational fires are not permitted in this area at any time.
“The ground and foliage is likely to remain dry during the coming weeks and months across the Wellington area. We would ask you all to please take extra caution.
“We’re not trying to stop your fun or enjoyment, it’s about being sensible and together protecting our countryside and open spaces.”
