MORE than 100 bikers turned out to help a Wellington care home resident’s dream come true.

The riders visited from as far away as Cardiff, Bristol and Exeter, as well as Wellington, Taunton, Tiverton, Bridgwater and Yeovil for Chelston Park Nursing and Residential Home resident David Walker.

Estates and business development manager Edward Allistone said: “We run a scheme called the Jar of Dreams. Residents submit requests and we try our best to make their wishes come true.

“David wanted to see some motorbikes and luckily for us our nurse trainer is a keen biker and knew lots of people from bike meets across the South-West.”

A prize for the oldest vintage bike given by Jacki Penny from Wellington Co-Op Funeral Care was won by Shelagh Moore with her Norton ES2 1954.

A prize for prettiest bike given by Chelston Park and judged by David Walker went to Gary Barclay’s gold Trike Can-Am Spyder. Gary and his son visited from Cardiff and David got to sit on the trike.

The kitchen gave out free tea, coffee and cakes to all the bikers who turned up.

Everyone dug deep and £260 was raised on the day from donations. Chelston Park gave another £200 and local photographer Will Badman sold some of his pictures from the day. At last count £540 has been raised and presented to Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

Mr Allistone added: “One of our activities staff spoke of being moved to tears by all the bikers turning up to give David his dream.

“With that in mind, we wanted to thank all the bikers for coming. Thank you also to all our residents, relatives and staff for making the day such a success.”
