The funeral service for Bill Sydenham, one-time treasurer of Wellington Conservative Club, was held earlier this month at Taunton Crematorium.
Mr Sydenham (pictured) , of High Street, had been a member for many years and also helped on the social committee. He was treasurer of the club before becoming ill and was 90 when he died.
Mr Sydenham was born in Bradford-on-Tone and attended the village school.
After his parents moved to Judge’s Cottages, at the age of 14 he went to work with his uncle Fred at Buckwell Nurseries. He later worked at the garden centre in High Street for many years before that closed.
He found out he had cancer in 1990 but he beat that and when he was better did odd jobs, such as cutting grass.
He played skittles for Bradford Ex-Services and Fireguard A.
