Organisers were delighted that the 2021 Wellington Flower Show was able to go ahead, albeit on a reduced scale, although the essence of the event was retained with classes for fruit, flowers, vegetables and pot plants, along with those for floral art and children.

The hall at the Alan Rogers Centre at Wellington School was filled with spectacular blooms and mouth-watering vegetables despite fewer exhibits than normal.

Show secretary Sheena Page said: “The floral art section was particularly well supported, perhaps as there was no flower arranging at the Taunton show. There were significantly more exhibits than in previous years and my thanks go to members of Taunton Flower Club who once again supported the show.

“Congratulations to Jackie Crouch who swept the board and has supported the Wellington Flower Show for more years than any other exhibitor – it would be indelicate to say how many!”

Organisers were pleased to welcome new exhibitors in the children’s and adult classes, and were delighted that Elodie Avery, who has not exhibited before, won the Best Exhibit Cup for her miniature garden.

Sheena added: “Our thanks also go to a significant number of exhibitors who have supported the show over many years, as well as those who are newer to the show.”

Organisers said visitor numbers were pleasing even though it was a smaller show and no stalls or refreshments were on offer. Sheena said: “Entry to the show was free and we were delighted that visitors gave so generously in the donations jars. The show generated no income this year so this was particularly pleasing as running costs still had to be met.”

The judges were once again pleased by the high standard of exhibits, particularly in the floral art and children’s classes.

The organisers thank the judges who gave so freely of their time and Wellington School where the show has been held over many years.

It is planned to hold a Spring Show next year after a break of two years. Details will appear on the society’s website, www.wellingtonflowershow.co.uk, and in the local press.

Cup and prize winners are listed in today’s WWN with two pages of photos.
