COUNCILLORS are disappointed that Barclays Bank has confirmed it will be closing its Wellington branch next month.

Members of Wellington Town Council heard last week that the bank would definitely be closing on April 20.

The Mayor, Cllr Gary James, and town clerk Greg Dyke met bank representatives Adam Rowland and Julia Husband last month.

Mr Dyke said: “Although they told us that they did not take the decision to close any branch lightly, they confirmed the Wellington branch would be closing.”

Councillors heard that Barclays staff are helping customers make the transition to online banking and have identified a number of people more dependent on the physical branch.

The nearest Barclays branch after the Wellington office shuts is at 46 North Street in Taunton, although everyday transactions such as paying in a cheque or depositing cash can also be completed at the Post Office.
