THE Wellington Weekly News has been recognised as being an important part of the Wellington community.

Wellington Town Council has presented the WWN with a Platinum Jubilee commemorative coin, telling the paper that it is “vital to our community”.

They added: “The WWN has been instrumental in telling the town and its surrounding area precisely what’s going on, delving in to politics, crime, healthcare, education and the environment.

“Its in-depth coverage of the recent jubilee celebrations also helped to cement its place in local life.”

Barry Knott, veteran journalist at the WWN said: “It is an honour to be given this commemorative coin - we are proud to serve our community here.”

Town clerk David Farrow said: “We are grateful to the Weekly News for keeping us all informed as to what is going on here in Wellington.”

Two thousand of the coins were presented to schoolchildren in the town, and the remaining 20 or 30 given to outstanding members of the Wellington community.
