THE three ‘empty’ bank buildings in Fore Street, Wellington, have either been sold or are about to be sold.
And one of them – the WWN has learned – could be the new home of the town’s post office.
Negotiations are in progress for the post office, closed in the One Stop store in High Street in August, to move into the old NatWest Bank which is the subject of a deal which should be completed later this week.
The HSBC premises on the corner of South Street and Fore Street is already occupied by law firm AmicusLaw Solicitors. The full service law firm had an office at Rumwell Hall, near Taunton, until it moved last week.
Finally, Webbers’ estate agents in South Street has revealed that the old Barclays Bank in Fore Street has been bought for near the guide price of £215,000. It had been set to go to auction last month.
The estate agent is not in a position to say yet who has bought it or what it is to become.
It had been feared that the three buildings might remain empty for some time, thereby spoiling the appearance of Fore Street.
But all three premises were priced to attract builders, with local firm Hawkings Cladding, based at Chelston, buying the old HSBC building and looking to complete a deal to purchase the NatWest premises sometime this week.
n Little Monsters Attic, formerly Mad Dog, opens in South Street, Wellington, on Saturday, catering for children from newborns up to 12 years.
