DEMENTIA charity Reminiscence Learning, based in Wellington, provided a riot of colour, sounds and tastes at its People Make the World Go Round event.

The day for carers, volunteers, health care professionals and those the charity cares for aimed to raise awareness about different cultures and the contribution all residents make to local life, while celebrating growing older.

Captain Jack and the team from Reminiscence Learning, all dressed as cabin crew, led an audience of more than 150 people on a virtual world tour taking in the national costumes, dances and traditions of many countries.

Visitors were able to be part of the Rio Carnival procession, join in with Bhangra dancing, use walking sticks as Flamenco dancing props and drum and dance alongside an African drummer, to name but a few of the highlights.

They also had the opportunity to handle snakes, reptiles and owls, try their hand at cultural crafts and sample delicious tasters from Italy, France, England and India.

A charity spokesperson said: “Feedback from the event has been fantastic with comments like ‘every time I think of the day it makes me smile’ and ‘a wonderful uplifting experience – such good fun. The team at Reminiscence Learning would like to thank all who helped make the day the fantastic success that it was.”

The Awards for All lottery funded event was held at Taunton Rugby Club.
