WELLINGTON Carnival Committee has made a further three donations – two to St John’s Primary School.

The first was half of what the children collected on carnival night and the second from clerk to the governors Jane Burden, who took part in a carnival abseil.

The children are hoping to take part in this year’s carnival and some of the money raised will assist them with costumes and props.

The third donation for £150 was presented to Genesis Youth Theatre, six of whose members took part in the carnival’s 50/50 abseil. Alice Cribbon, from Genesis, said the money raised will go towards the next show, Olivia, from June 22-25, at Wellington Arts Centre. Wellington Carnival Committee secretary Louise Brierley said: “It gives us great pleasure to give money back to local schools and groups within our community. There will be many more donations in the next couple of months.

“However, the committee will be flat out over the next month organising the Annual Street Fair which takes place on Sunday, June 5, with hundreds of different stalls and a variety of entertainment from 10am-5pm.”

The search is also on to find Wellington a Royal Family to take part in this year’s carnival. Anyone interested should pick up a form from the WWN or email [email protected]
