A WELLINGTON woman has told of her horror at seeing her pet cat "torn apart" by dogs.

Alayne How, of Foxdown Terrace says her black and white cat, Figaro, a family pet for 21 years, was mutilated and killed by a lurcher and a labradoodle outside her home on the afternoon of August 25.

A neighbour who went to Figaro's aid had his hand bitten as he tried to prize open one of the dog's jaws in an effort to free the stricken moggy.

Now neighbours and passers-by have created a shrine on the front garden wall where Figaro used to sit.
