CAT lover Evie Leigh, from West Buckland, had got in a car and was heading towards Salisbury last week when her planned parachute jump for charity was called off.

Evie, 64, who is raising money for the Taunton & Wellington branch of Cats Protection, is now planning to jump next month.

Evie, who volunteers at the Wellington branch, said: “I was absolutely terrified of jumping but I had psyched myself up and was disappointed when the jump was called off because cloud and rain were forecast.”

She will now be doing a tandem skydive from 15,000ft with the Red Devils Army parachute team on Thursday, September 7.

She added: “Taunton & Wellington Cats Protection has plans for a new and improved fostering facility, and I would be proud, happy and thrilled to make a contribution to that.”

So far she has raised £1,085 for Cats Protection – anyone who would like to sponsor her should visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Evie-Leigh1
