WWN Nature Diary correspondent L B Loxley says he has recently seen these Cinnabar moth caterpillars devouring the ragwort plants outside his front door.

He said: “Cinnabar adults are those lovely black and red day-flying moths that you see out at this time of year. Very soon, these little beauties will be burrowing under the ground to pupate over winter, before emerging next spring, just as the ragwort is firmly establishing itself again. Isn’t nature wonderful?”
