THE new mayor of Wellington is Gary James, who was elected unopposed – as customary – at the town council’s meeting on Monday evening.

Gary, who received the chains of office from outgoing mayor Bob Bowrah, is a keen squash player who has played at international level.
He has lived locally since 1975 and in Wellington since 1989, and has two sons. He served in HM Army (Airborne) for 11 years and has worked in the nuclear industry. He represents Wellington East on Taunton Deane Borough Council as well as sitting on the town council.
He also helps a Ten Tors youth programme and enjoys gardening and keeping up with current affairs.
Janet Lloyd, mayor before Cllr Bowrah, was elected deputy mayor.
