PUPILS at Oake, Nynehead and Bradford-on-Tone Primary School visited sculptor Tom Harvey while he worked on a fallen cedar tree in Oake churchyard.
The parishioners and Rev Alison were keen to create a wildlife area where the tree once stood and Tom’s carving will be a beautiful addition.
Earlier in the week Tom visited school and spoke to the children about his work and plans for the sculpture. He also spent the afternoon working with the oldest class, helping them develop their own skills in three-dimensional work, using clay.
Pupils saw Tom at work, carving a mouse’s tail using a chainsaw. The school thanks Tom for giving his time and sharing his enthusiasm so willingly.
It also thanks Lynne Haines, who arranged for Tom to do the work and took care to ensure the pupils could be involved in the project.
