PEPE, the six-year-old Chihuahua attacked and seriously hurt by a ‘big black’ dog in Wellington, at the beginning of last December, has made a miraculous recovery.

“She is happy and not in any way timid following her ordeal,” said owner Josey McCannon, who faced a £4,000 bill after Pepe was saved from being put down by the skills of staff at Mount Vets.

Pepe sustained terrible neck wounds after she was attacked at Lancer Court near Asda.

What also upset Mrs McCannon, who lives just off the High Street in Wellington, was the action of the dog owner who brushed off the attack as if it were nothing. “There was a time when I thought I might lose her – and that she was never coming home,” added Mrs McCannon.

“Everyone has been so kind. They still come up to me and ask how she is.

“I no longer go towards Lancer Court with Pepe. I go a different way.”

Insurance money helped with the bill with Mrs McCannon eventually having to pay £2,000.

Police are still investigating the incident with no court case pending. The owner of the offending dog has not been identified.
