THE Cinema Obscura Film Society in Wiveliscombe is showing Mountains May Depart (12A) on Sunday (March 18).

The film, in Cantonese Chinese and English with English subtitles, shows China through the eyes and lens of one of its best film-makers, director Jia Zhangke.

The film spans the past, the present and the near future, going from 1999 to 2014 and then onto 2025. It is an intimate and moving drama which charts the impact of China’s capitalist experiment on the lives of one family.

Mountains May Depart is being shown at Wiveliscombe Primary School hall – doors open at 7pm and the film starts at 7.30pm – guest membership is £5.
