TEENAGERS from the National Citizenship Service (NCS) raised money for Cancer Research by washing cars at Waitrose in Wellington last Wednesday.

The youngsters from the Wellington, Taunton and Chard area were staging a cake sale the following day for the same cause.

The NCS is a voluntary personal and social development programme for 16- and 17-year-olds in England and Northern Ireland.

It was announced in May 2010 by Prime Minister David Cameron as part of the Conservative–Liberal Democrat coalition government’s Big Society initiative and was piloted in 2011.
