St Margaret’s Colour Run Remix is back at Taunton Racecourse on Saturday, 20 May 2023, and this year there’s a special fun twist.
Colour Run Remix is a fun run for all the family where entrants are showered with colourful powder paint as they make their way around the route.
The charity says: "Whether they choose to run, walk or dance around the course, we don’t mind as long as they have fun!
"A special edition for 2023 will see our fabulous hospice volunteers on hand to get everyone especially colourful and messy this year!
"Whether you want to rock a colourful outfit, get crazy with hair colours or go fully fledged rainbow warrior with glitter face paint, we want our amazing Somerset community to come together, get colourful and celebrate hospice care whilst raising vital funds.
"Last year money raised at our Colour Run could pay for 490 family sessions with a specialist counsellor. This is an essential service where families can talk about their feelings before and after bereavement.
One local family which has benefitted from this support is Elaine’s.
Elaine Thorne from near Minehead is taking part in the Colour Run Remix with her husband Stuart and granddaughters Mollie and Mia, to pay a special tribute to her daughter, Kayleigh, and to raise funds for St Margaret’s Hospice.
Kayleigh, 32, was referred to St Margaret’s after she received the devastating news that her cancer diagnosis was terminal. She was supported by the hospice so she could focus on enjoying the precious time she had left with her family and children Mollie and Mia, aged 3 and 10 at the time.
Elaine added, “when I told the girls about the Colour Run Remix, they were so excited. It’s a great opportunity for a family day out, remembering our wonderful Kayleigh and raising money so that other families in our position will receive the care and support they need. It’s just a great way for us to say thank you.”
Entry to the Colour Run Remix costs £18 for adults and £13 for children – all entrants will receive a fun pre-run warm-up, a paint packet, a poncho to protect their cars and clothing and an official finisher medal.
Each participant is asked to try and raise £50 in sponsorship, which could pay for a family session with a specialist counsellor at St Margaret’s where families can talk about their feelings before and after bereavement.
The charity says this year’s event is proudly sponsored by Mogers Drewett. A spokesperson said: “At Mogers Drewett we pride ourselves on building relationships with our clients and also with the local community in which we work.
"We are delighted to be headline sponsor of this year’s St Margaret’s Hospice Colour Run Remix to support the amazing work that the hospice does in our local community and also to give our teams the opportunity and have fun.” You can find out more and sign up online.
St Margaret’s is a Somerset charity and not part of the NHS, caring for people with any life-limiting illness, not just cancer. It supports families and carers as well as patients, and last year supported around 5,000 people across Somerset, most in their own homes.
