WELLINGTON Cricket Club has been applauded by town councillors on being fair in its application for grant funding.

The club had originally applied to Wellington Town Council for a grant of£1,095 towards the cost of winter coaching for young players.

But councillors were impressed when they were told the club had reduced the request to £985.50 after it found the costs of hiring Court Field sports hall were less than previously thought.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Janet Lloyd said: “This is good value for money and encourages sporting activity in the town.”

The council has supported the successful series of winter coaching sessions since 2010.
