SIGNS banning dogs from Dobree Park in Rockwell Green have been taken down by Taunton Deane Borough Council.

A council spokeswoman said it became aware no by-law is currently in place so the signs were removed as soon as it found out.

She added: “The signs were put up at Dobree Park following a number of complaints about dog fouling.

“The council remains committed to helping improve the park for the enjoyment of everyone in the community and is looking at ways to encourage responsible dog ownership.

“Posters designed by school children are being put up instead to convey the message that picking up after your pet can help ensure the park is a clean and safe open space.”

The WWN reported earlier this month that dog owners Bernie and Denise Tanton, who live near the park, were angry they were being stopped from walking their three Bichon Frise pets there. They said they would now have to take their dogs at least two miles away to find them somewhere to walk.

The couple also said the park, marked out as a football pitch, was only used by junior teams six to ten times a year. But Wellington AFC youth team secretary Colin Waller said in a letter to the WWN last week that the pitch was used at least 20 times a season by under-12 teams.
