A NEW local initiative designed to support employers has been launched by Wellington Town Council.

Led by the council’s community development officer Laura Bacha, the Wellington Employer & Skills Partnership (WESP) is designed to build stronger connections between employers and to provide support to services and the wider community.

The council hope that such an initiative will be able to help to local businesses, and make it easier for employers to involve themselves in community development in order to build a stronger and more inclusive community.

While the initiative has been announced by Wellington Town Council, more details about how to sign up are not expected to be unveiled until 2026.

Through the initiative, the council will be looking to use their platform to signpost helpful information and opportunities that could be utilised by local businesses.

Wellington Town Council would look to highlight information such as mentoring initiatives for business owners, upskilling and training opportunities for staff, and acces to work experience and internship programmes.

They will also look to provide apprenticeship support, recruitment guidance and host career events.

Laura Bacha, community development officer at Wellington Town Council, said: “WESP reflects Wellington Town Council’s commitment to supporting local commerce and making it easier for employers to get involved in community development.

“We know Wellington’s businesses are at the heart of the town and when they’re connected to the right support and partnerships, everyone benefits.

“Whether you’re offering work experience, training opportunities, or just want to stay in the loop, WESP is about building a stronger, more inclusive future together.

“While we’ve launched a social media campaign to highlight existing support and opportunities, we’re currently refining the best way for local businesses to get more involved.

“We expect to have further details including how to sign up in place by early 2026.”
