THE saga of a missing public bench in Rockwell Green came to a head this week with town Cllr Marcus Barr demanding a public apology to residents from the council.

Cllr Barr said: "I have been waiting two years for a bench to be fitted on the corner of Brookland Road next to Rockwell Green Primary School.

"I do not understand what is holding it up and now I have run out of patience.

"I have done everything I can, I ask about it at meeting after meeting and all I get told is that it is about to happen - but it never does.

"The county highways people put up a notice on a post outside the school saying the bench was going to be sited there - that was in August last year!

"So, where is it?

"I think the town council is letting down the community of Rockwell Green and they need to publicly apologise to residents and say what has gone wrong, and do so immediately."

Cllr Barr said fellow town Cllr John Thorne had started the council’s programme of installing public benches around Wellington about four years ago and had successfully seen several put in without the same delay.

"Why is it Wellington get their benches when promised, but Rockwell Green does not," asked Cllr Barr.
