A WELLINGTON couple have been involved in a dramatic rescue in the French Alps after their ski chairs stopped in mid-air.
Adam Croft, a 38 year old electrician, and his 31 year old partner Zara Atri, who works for Somerset County Council, were holidaying in the popular ski resort of Puy St Vincent when the incident happened on Friday last week. “We were taking a chair lift – separately – when it suddenly came to a halt,” said Adam. “We were told it might take an hour to get us down but it was more like one and a half hours.
“Fortunately it was not too cold – about nought degrees. But it’s a dry cold and more bearable than at home.
“Rescuers were dropped from a helicopter and we were eventually lowered to the ground. I don’t think we felt in any danger because the authorities appeared to know what they were doing.
“It appears it was a technical problem – not a breakage. That would have been more serious.”
The couple returned to their home in Sylvan Road on Sunday no worse for their experience.
“It was a good week and Friday was something we won’t forget in a hurry,” added Adam.
