Students at Court Fields School in Wellington have been making the change from learning at school to learning at home.

Staff have been setting work via the school’s ClassCharts online system, ensuring that students keep up with their studies during the school closure. Parents and carers have been supported by the school’s Guide to Learning at Home, which has been emailed to all parents.

Acting headteacher Polly Matthews said: “I would like to thank our students for the mature way in which they are dealing with this difficult situation. They have demonstrated a real commitment to learning and this will stand them in good stead in the years to come.

“My thanks also go out to our parents and carers, whose support and understanding has been very gratefully received by our staff at school. We understand that this is a difficult time for families and we thank them for all that they are doing to help their children’s learning, as well as focus on their well-being.”

Staff have noticed an impact of the change to online learning, with many receiving emails of support and goodwill from their students.

Assistant headteacher Mrs Westwood said: “As students have had to use email instead of face to face communication with staff, they are developing their skills in semi-formal communication, an essential skill for later life. This is just one way in which students are embracing our #BeKind ethos, which we have been developing this year in response to student feedback following the tragic death of Caroline Flack.”

Although the school is officially closed Court Fields continues to open for the children of key workers and most vulnerable students.

Mrs Matthews has extended her thanks to all staff at the school. “The commitment and care for our community demonstrated by every single member of our staff at this extraordinary time,” she said. “Support staff and teachers have gone above and beyond normal expectations, and I could not be more proud our Court Fields team.”
