STUDENTS from Court Fields School in Wellington visited Plymouth University for a day with the aim of raising aspirations by inspiring more students to consider attending university.

They were put into groups when they arrived, assigned campus tour guides and had a comprehensive tour of the university. Students were treated to an interactive session in either Science or Art. Art groups looked at music and the ways in which this influences art, and Science students extracted their own DNA, which they got to take home in a pendant.

A few of the students had already set their sights on university and went along to see university life at first hand but for most it was an opportunity to look at post-18 options and the implications of progressing into higher education.

Some of the comments from students included: “I can’t wait to do well in my exams so I can come here – this place has everything.”

“I wasn’t sure if ‘uni’ would be the best choice for me because I thought it would cost too much. Now I know it can be for me.”

“If I can go to University, Plymouth is the one for me as it’s got the perfect atmosphere and all of the courses I would like to do.”
