Wellington Neighbourhood Policing team are joining operation Scorpio this week. The joint operation is aiming at tackling drug crime in local communities. As part of this operation Police have started visiting local schools to educate children about the dangers of illegal drugs and drug use. The operation includes forces from all over Somerset, Dorset, and Devon and Cornwall.

Wellignton Police came out with a public statement this week, they commented: “ This week we are joining our policing colleagues across the South West in a joint operation to tackle illegal drug crime in our communities. We will be carrying out patrols, vulnerability visits, warrants and a series of local activity to encourage the reporting of any illegal drug crime, as well as protect those most vulnerable to exploitation.”

They go on to say: “Every bit of information your Wellington Neighbourhood Policing Team receive helps us to build a picture of what’s happening in our community and to target our resources. If you know or suspect any illegal drug activity is taking place in your neighbourhood, report it. Any information received will be dealt with in full confidence and can be reported via our website, calling 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
