A SIZEABLE crowd lined South Street in Wellington on Friday afternoon of last week to pay their last respects to the president of Wellington Cricket Club, Duncan Short.

Duncan, who was 72, died suddenly in Taunton on September 15 and his funeral cortege passed along South Street before turning into High Street on its way to Taunton Crematorium.

The cortege paused in South Street as members of the cricket club raised bats and gave a round of applause.

Due to Government guidelines, the service in Taunton was restricted to close family members and friends.

Duncan leaves a widow, Judith, and three grown-up sons – Richard, Alec and Paul.

WWN sports reporter Barry Knott said: “Duncan was not only a committed member of the cricket club, he had a great personality. He will always be remembered.

“It was very moving to be among those in the town who paid tribute to him.”
