CRIME in Wellington has reduced by more than 12% year on year, members of the town council heard on Monday.

Sgt Stuart Bell, in charge of the Wellington police team, said not only had crime been reduced, but that the local detection rate jhad risen above the Avon and Somerset force average.

He said: "We are now seeing a 33% detection rate, compared with the 28% to which the force aspires.

Praising the efforts of the Wellington police team, Cllr David Mitton said: "These figures are a credit to the PCs and PCSOs based in Wellington."
