The dedication of the Field of Remembrance took place at Wellington Baptist Church on Sunday (November 7).
The Rev Sam Griffith led the service and gave the Exhortation, and, after the service, was made Royal British Legion (RBL) Wellington branch chaplain. The ceremony involved presenting him with a stole.
Standard bearer Bob Trickey dipped the Wellington branch standard and the service was concluded when vice-chairman Michael Cooper gave the Kohima.
Wooden crosses were laid by everyone who wished to do so. Once Remembrance time has concluded, these will be taken from the Field of Remembrance and carefully incinerated – and their ashes scattered onto Wellington’s Garden of Remembrance next year.
Present at the service were members of Wellington Town Council, Somerset West and Taunton Council chairman Cllr Hazel Prior-Sankey and members of RBL Wellington branch as well as members of the public.
The RBL branch would like to thank the Rev Griffith for conducting the service and Wellington Baptist Church for helping by setting up the Field of Remembrance and providing refreshments.
