A CLAIM that Wellington In Bloom could be disbanded because of council spending cuts has been dismissed as 'scaremongering'.

The claim has come from Mark Formosa, who wants to be the next local Conservative MP, who said spending cuts being put forward by cash-strapped Taunton Deane Borough Council could mean the town will have to withdraw from the prestigious Britain in Bloom competition, while the Wellington in Bloom committee also faces being disbanded.

Alleging that the Deane council had a 'desire to abolish Britain in Bloom locally', he also claimed the cuts would mean the end of Taunton In Bloom.

But the leader of the Deane council, Cllr Ross Henley, said on Monday: "This is just scaremongering, and has no basis in fact.
