DEMENTIA charity Reminiscence Learning welcomed a large number of visitors to an open day at its headquarters in Tonedale, Wellington, to showcase what it has to offer.

The charity sent out invitations to family carers, health care professionals, local businesses and community members with the launch of new respite activity sessions last week.

The respite sessions aim to support carers and those they care for, including individuals with memory problems or a dementia.

The new sessions run from 10am-4pm with the opportunity to stay for all or part of the day. The varied programme includes creative activities, music and movement, relaxation, cognitive- and memory-stimulating activities, and active music. A new kitchen will also enable the charity to provide healthy and nutritious snacks and lunches.

Among the visitors were Jane Barrie OBE DL, representing the Lord Lieutenant for Somerset, and Mayor of Wellington Cllr Gary James.

A food and hygiene inspection carried out the same day gave the charity further reason to celebrate, as it awarded a five-star rating.

A spokesperson for Reminiscence Learning said: “We would like to thank everyone who joined us for our open day – the building was buzzing with excitement.

“It was a great way to launch a new chapter of delivery for the charity, which will enable us to provide respite for carers and meaningful engagement for the loved ones they are caring for.

“Thanks as well to all our team who worked so hard in the run up to the event, from painting, to putting up shelves and ironing tablecloths, to ensure everything was ready.”
